For the first time ever Sri Lanka hosts the annual International Regional Conference of ASHRAE from 28 to 30 September.
At the last annual conference held in Abu Dabi, it was unanimously decided that Sri Lanka will have the privilege of hosting this highly prestigious event. The Sri Lankan delegation at the conference had lobbied successfully to bring the honour to Sri Lanka.
ASHRAE is an international organisation which has a worldwide reach as an association of professionals in the field of heating ventilation air-conditioning, refrigeration developing and advancement of the modern technology.
The conference will be held at Galadhari Hotel Colombo. Participants will be professional delegates as many as 200 from around the world including Europe, Middle East, South East Asia and USA are expected attend this Chapter Regional Conference (CRC), in Sri Lanka.
Indirectly the conference opens a window to showcase Sri Lanka for what it is as a destination market for goods and services and also as a top tourist destination.
Technology wise the members and the two affiliated student chapters in Sri Lanka benefit immensely from the technical sessions conducted by high profile international professionals.
ASHRAE Headquarters is located in USA, with affiliated members active in 176 chapters worldwide. The aims and objectives focus on their mission to serve humanity and promote a sustainable world through research, setting standards and continuing with education.
It is centred in advancing the art and science of heating ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration ASHRAE, in the process of achieving its commercial objective for these industries as well.
It enhances awareness and also educates young engineers through its regional activates also granting scholarships.
The chapter in Sri Lanka was established 10 years ago. The Sri Lanka chapter has two student chapters comprising of university students.
Member ship to the main chapters requires certain criteria being fulfilled. Thus it is limited to engineering and technical personnel. They benefit immensely through the continuous learning that is essential to this industry. Technological research provides guidelines to its worldwide membership.
